Of Silly Love Songs is a detournement of posters created by the Atelier Populaire (students and workers alliance) during the student uprising in France, 1968. For this series of prints, the artists reprinted 14 of the infamous May '68 posters, replacing their original text with the lyrics from Paul McCartney's Silly Love Songs (1976): "You'd think that people / would have had enough / of silly love songs…"
For example, this poster, "would have had enough" replaces the original text, "notre lutte continue" (our struggle continues).
In the spirit of the original Atelier Populaire posters, hundreds of the original prints were installed on the streets of Vancouver in January, 2004.
The original series of 14 prints (edition of 25) has exhibited numerous times since its creation in 2004 and is housed in the Tacoma Art Gallery, Hart House Permanent collection, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Windsor, and other collections worldwide.
